The first book in the Home Front Detective series. SET DURING WWI

Oct 16, 2016

Having read the Railway Detective series as they come out, I decided to try the Home Front series by Marston as well. As expected his research was well done, his characters fully fleshed out, and the plot exciting and logical. I look forward to more adventures featuring DI Harvey Marmion and his family and Sgt. Joe Keedy, Marmion's second in command. WWI was a turning point in British and world history, so there were many social trends which lend themselves to storytelling.

Having devoured Marston’s Nicholas Bracewell series, I spent years sulking over the discontinuation before deciding to give the author another chance. Marmion and Keedy aren’t quite as charming as Bracewell, but it’s still a good read. The style is similar to Charles Todd’s Ian Rutledge series, with hints of Sherlock Holmes.
