4/5 stars Liar Liar is a 1997 classic comedy film directed by Tom Shadyac, starring Jim Carrey as a lawyer who loses the ability to lie. The movie is almost solely carried on the back of Carrey, as the thin plot could not support much by itself. If you are looking for a party of laughs, this is the movie to watch. This was the second Jim Carrey film I had seen after Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and I thoroughly enjoyed that film so I had high expectations for this movie. I was not disappointed, Carrey’s unique blend of physical comedy with excellent line delivery makes him one of the funniest actors ever. The movie is written perfectly around Carrey’s captivating presence. He steals all the scenes that he is in and this plot is written around the fact that his performance is all that anyone will be watching. He plays less of a dumb goon in this movie that he does in Dumb and Dumber, making him likable as his sillier side is somewhat reined in. For anyone looking for a (somewhat) family-friendly comedy, this is classic that everyone should see. @Joaquin of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

This was (is) one of my favorite movies. I watched it so many times when I was younger, and looking back there are a lot of jokes that went right over my head. I get them now though!

Jim Carrey does it once again! This is comedy at its finest. It’s so funny! The story is pretty simple. It's basically about a lawyer who can't lie. Jim Carrey is a lawyer and his job naturally requires him to do a lot of lying. Due to his job, he frequently breaks the promises he makes to his son. His son tired of all this makes a birthday wish and for a day his dad could only speak the truth. The wish comes true and here's where all the fun starts. A must watch!!!

If you like Jim Carrey movies, you will love this one too. Expressive Carrey cannot lie and gets himself in a lot of trouble, but we all know
that honesty is the best.
If you want to laugh see this one.

No overacting here... yeah right, well at least no animals were harmed or impersonated in any way. Carrey as the original "yes" man.
